Most PCI Express Servers have few slots for I/O expansion due to the server market's contention that a fast LAN connection services most connectivity needs. This "most" assumption clearly excluded embedded projects where either a large quantity of boards, variety of boards - or both - are highly valued. Two such applications are instrumentation systems which require a large variety of data acquisition boards or PCI Express board manufacturers who need a high slot count to test and burn-in thier PCIe products.
